Recently, at the VMware Explore 2023 conference, cloud computing service giant VMware announced the expansion of its partnership with Lenovo Group to bring new one-stop AI and multi-cloud solutions to enterprises.

According to the official website of Lenovo Group, the main contents of the cooperation include: the new Lenovo ThinkSystem generation AI solution specially built for the next generation AI workload and equipped with VMware Cloud; the pay-as-you-go hybrid cloud solution provided by the Joint Edge and Cloud Innovation Lab; and the launch of the new Lenovo TruScale hybrid cloud service with on-demand service as the core in conjunction with VMware.

Kirk Skaugen, executive vice president of Lenovo and president of Infrastructure Solutions Business Group (ISG), said: "Lenovo is committed to becoming the most trusted partner and enabling customers to transform intelligently through the new IT. The expanded cooperation with VMware will enable more enterprises to take advantage of modern edge, artificial intelligence and hybrid cloud capabilities to accelerate the digital transformation."

Deepen Cooperation and jointly build AI value chain

In the current wave of digital transformation, data is known as a new factor of production, which is of great economic value. However, in order to unleash the great potential of data, we must rely on strong computing power, and the data age has evolved into a computing age, and this change has given rise to the demand for the ubiquitous "Puhui" numeracy. Around this demand, the cooperation between Lenovo and VMwar will be mainly based on AI infrastructure.

On the one hand, Lenovo has partnered with VMwar to release the newly generated AI reference Design (Reference Design for Generative AI), which uses Nvidia accelerated computing and software through the integrated Lenovo ThinkSystem solution, which is designed to help enterprises provide the most general accelerated computing platform on the market through the application of AI, and to use pre-validated, fully integrated and performance optimized solutions for data centers running on VMware vSphere.

From a technical point of view, the solution uses a NVIDIA GPU-intensive platform built specifically for AI workloads, with AI server products such as Lenovo ThinkSystem SR675 V3 and ThinkSystem SR670 V2 as the core, providing a compact rack of 3U or less for high-performance accelerated workloads with up to eight GPU configurations. Based on Lenovo and VMware and Nvidia technologies, these servers will advance the development of AI and introduce generative artificial intelligence applications such as intelligent chatbots, search and summary tools to a variety of industries.

On the other hand, the cooperation between Lenovo and VMware is mainly focused on cloud computing and launched a new ThinkAgile VX super-convergence solution, which provides advanced scalability, high performance and reliability by adopting VMware Cloud Foundation, which provides a complete and integrated multi-cloud infrastructure solution for building and managing private and hybrid clouds. And use VMware tools to achieve automated deployment and management of infrastructure and applications, with factory integration, pre-configuration and pay-as-you-go characteristics. The solution is designed to help enterprises enter the next wave of artificial intelligence and machine learning with IT, which is more efficient and easier to deploy in mixed cloudy and edge environments.

In addition, Lenovo Group has launched Lenovo TruScale hybrid cloud service based on VMware, which combines the scalability and enhanced security of VMware Cloud infrastructure with the simplicity of cloud operations, making it easy for customers to scale hybrid cloud workloads on demand. With Lenovo TruScale for VMware, customers can reduce total costs on a pay-on-demand basis.

The expanded cooperation between Lenovo and VMware also includes jointly expanding the joint product launch strategy and providing new on-demand services to help more customers gain easier access to new IT infrastructure solutions.

It is worth mentioning that Lenovo and VMware have a long history of cooperation, and the two sides have established a long-term strategic partnership. Last year, Lenovo was awarded "VMware partner of the year". With this expanded cooperation, Lenovo and VMware join hands to build a strong AI value chain and help customers accelerate their digital transformation by providing "Puhui" AI products and solutions.
