According to reports, the research team of the University of Science and Technology of China independently developed high-performance quantum light sources and high-precision phase-locked multi-mode light quantum interference circuits, and cooperated with the Shanghai Institute of Microsystems of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the National parallel computer Engineering Technology Research Center. in 2020, 76 quantum computing prototypes of photon 100 mode, "Nine chapters", were built, and upgraded to Chapter 9 of 113 photon 144 modes the following year.

The name of "Nine chapters" is to commemorate the earliest mathematics monograph in ancient China, "Nine chapters arithmetic". In solving the Gaussian boson sampling task, it is 1014 times faster than the best classical algorithm and supercomputer at that time, and the power consumption is 1013 lower. Furthermore, the research team reveals the mathematical relationship between Gaussian Bose sampling and graph theory, and completes the solution of two practical graph theory problems of dense subgraph and Max-Haf based on "Nine chapters", which is 180 million times faster than that of classical computer simulation.

According to CTOnews.com 's previous report, the successful development of the "Nine chapters" quantum computing prototype made China reach the historic milestone of "quantum computing superiority" for the first time, and firmly established our country's position in the first square matrix in the international quantum computing research. The results were published in the journal Science, and were selected as "Ten Progress News of Science and Technology in China" selected by academicians of the two academies of China, and "Ten Progress of the International Physics year" of the American physical Society.

The "Nine chapters" quantum computing prototype is composed of laser system, quantum light source, phase-locked system, light quantum interference circuit and detection system. The research team donated five key devices, including multi-mode interferometer, optical fiber phase regulator, quantum transformation matrix phase measurement module, and complete original experimental records to the National Museum of China.
