In 2022, the "OUTASK telescopic Lamp" of Jia Jane Geometry team actually stepped on the outdoor land, experienced the wind and rain, combined with their own needs and the needs of the majority of users to do the design, won the gold medal of contemporary good design.

In this issue, we have an exclusive interview with Chen Yong, the designer of OUTASK telescopic Lamp, and ask him to talk about his mental journey.

I am Chen Yong. I have been very fond of outdoors since I was a child. I majored in industrial design in university. I have been working in industrial design since graduation. I have spent most of my life running outdoors except design. For many years, my friends and I went to many magical outdoor corners, mountains, lakes and seas, plains and mountains, etc. Basically, we ran all over the place, but before we went to every unknown place. We all have enough equipment to prepare for the uncharted territory we are about to arrive, and to deal with any accidents that may happen, and because of this, we must have a full understanding of the outdoor environment in different places and the equipment we carry.

Q1:OUTASK telescopic lamp has a variety of indoor and outdoor use scenes, what is the opportunity to make you want to develop this product?

One day of the epidemic in 2021, my brother and I were filming in Heyuan, and we camped overnight on a beach on the edge of Wanlu Lake. at that time, we realized that there were many inconveniences in the outdoor lights in the world. so we thought that through our own design ability to try to design a more practical lighting equipment, so we began to study.

Practical and important things are said three times. Practicality is the most important element of outdoor equipment that we have summed up after running around countless places, without one.

Q2: how does this design concept affect your company and your design works?

We have always been a group of pragmatic people, doing very practical things outdoors, and when we encounter difficulties, we solve them in a way that we think is the most practical, but also the best. Happily, our design solution not only meets our own needs, but also brings value to more users, let us establish this brand, we hope it can create new value for more users in the future.

Q3: what is the greatest fun and highlight of product design in Jiajian Geometry?

Cleanliness and thoroughness is a very important principle that I learned in Jia Jane geometry, that is, once we have made innovation, we have to do innovation more thoroughly, the design that does not move skin and flesh can not be seen here, and once innovation begins, it will subvert to the end.

Q4: are there any difficulties that are difficult to overcome in the course of this cooperation, and how are they solved in the end?

For outdoor equipment, compact size and portability is very important, how to integrate more functions in the limited space, while ensuring the simplicity and durability of the product appearance, is the biggest challenge we encounter. Through repeated design, repeated proofing, and repeated verification, we constantly commute between the office and the field, and after countless corrections and optimizations, step by step close to the perfect state we want, so that the product, like the natural biological evolution, comes out of the embryo, and then goes to the environment to experience, and finally finds the most suitable posture for it.

Q5: OUTASK telescopic lamp, which won the gold award for good contemporary design in 2022, what do you think is the reason why it stands out?

We are the people who actually set foot on the outdoor land to experience the wind and rain, combined with their own needs and the needs of the majority of users to do the design, if such a design is not a good design, then what is it?

Q6: are there any plans for the design work this year? Or what kind of goal do you want to achieve?

We will create more brand-new equipment through the design capability of more requirements found outdoors. We will focus on land and water areas to develop more outdoor products, please look forward to.

Q7: what is the most important thing in your design life?

Really, truly feel the environment, find the real needs, use your eyes to see what people are doing, use your body to feel the temperature and breeze, rather than look at the computer, PPT to feel people's needs, to observe them, and then do what you can, down-to-earth things, AI meta-universe is dazzling, but you can touch nothing more than the pots and pans around you every day.
