Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) Ford will cut three popular fuel-fueled models sold over the years to make way for electric vehicles. The carmaker plans to stop production of the Escape, Edge and Transit Connect to provide more money for the transition to electric vehicles, as part of a plan by Ford CEO Jim Farley to restore Ford's leading position in the auto industry.
Ford Edge will stop production because the Oakville plant that makes the model will be revamped to produce an all-electric SUV with three rows of seats. At present, the Transit Connect will only be discontinued in the United States, and the European market can still buy the model. The Escape is one of Ford's most popular models, and no production date has been set, at least there are no plans to build an electric version of the Escape.
As one of the oldest car companies in the world, Ford finally chose to abandon the fuel models that once brought it glory for a century and switch to the development of electric vehicles. Ford is also one of the traditional automakers most committed to the transformation of electric vehicles, and one of the most successful companies. It has publicly acknowledged that electric vehicles will be needed to maintain its excellent and sustainable business in the coming decades.
Ford plans to stop production of the Escape, Edge and Transit Connect because its losses in 2023 exceeded expectations, according to Automotive News, which said Ford would lose $4.5 billion more than previously expected (CTOnews.com Note: about 32.805 billion yuan currently).
Ford has increased its investment in electric vehicle production, expanded several plants and set aside billions of dollars to build a dedicated production base for electric vehicles and batteries in Tennessee. However, the company's target of producing 400000 electric vehicles a year by 2024 has been delayed. Ford also plans to quintuple that number to 2 million vehicles by 2026, but that number is also being reassessed.
In fact, Ford is not the first company to fail to meet its annual production targets for electric vehicles. Many carmakers have set very high goals, but failed to achieve them because the production and manufacturing processes are much more complex than initially thought. However, Ford still has many advantages in electric vehicles, it plans to launch a new generation of pick-up trucks in the next few years, and the Fmuri 150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E are becoming more and more popular.
