Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) according to the latest report released by market research firm IDC, global smartphone shipments are estimated to be 1.15 billion units in 2023, down 4.7% from a year earlier and the lowest in a decade.

According to the IDC report cited by CTOnews.com in June this year, global smartphone shipments fell 3.2% year on year to 1.17 billion units in 2023, down 3.2% from the same period last year. According to the newly revised report, the decline is due to the weak economic outlook and persistent inflation, which suppresses consumer demand and prolongs the update cycle.

Although IDC cut smartphone shipments in 2023, it expects a recovery in 2024, with year-on-year growth of 4.5 per cent and low single-digit growth over the next five years, with a five-year CAGR of 1.7 per cent.

Subdivided into mobile operating systems, IDC believes that iPhone is better able to cope with economic challenges than Android models, and estimates that the share of iOS will grow 1.1 percent to 19.9 percent in 2023, a record high. By contrast, Android will fall by 6.0 percent.
