CTOnews.com, August 31 (Xinhua)-- Apple announced today that it will begin accepting applications for the 2024 iPhone Security Research device Program, which will provide security researchers with specialized Apple devices to make it easier to identify key vulnerabilities in iOS systems.

Apple's Security Research Program (SRDP) was launched in 2019, through which researchers have identified 130 high-impact security vulnerabilities. Apple says researchers have helped them implement "novel patches" to protect iOS devices.

Over the past six months, program participants have received 37 CVE credits, contributing to improvements in the XNU kernel, kernel extensions, and XPC services.

Researchers participating in SRDP are eligible for an Apple Security bonus. Apple has awarded more than 100 reports from SRDP researchers and says "multiple awards" have reached $500000 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 3.645 million yuan), with a median bonus of nearly $18000 (currently about 131000 yuan).

The iPhone 14 Pro research device provided by Apple to participants has special hardware and software designed for security research. Researchers can configure or disable iOS security so that they can be manipulated in ways that standard iPhone cannot. SRD is suitable for security researchers who have experience in security research on iPhone and other platforms, and Apple also provides devices to college educators who want to use it as a teaching tool for computer science students.

Apple selects a limited number of participants to receive research devices each year, and the deadline for applications is October 31, 2023. Selected participants will be notified in early 2024.
