CTOnews.com, August 30 (Xinhua)-- NVIDIA has released the latest test results for the upcoming Arm-based Grace super chip, which will be used in next-generation data centers and servers and claims to provide twice as much performance at the same power level.
According to the benchmark results provided by NVIDIA, compared to CPU "Genoa", AMD's fastest x86 data center, Grace can provide approximately 1.7 to 2.5 times the performance at the same power consumption, with a bigger lead over Intel Sapphire Rapids.
Of course, strictly speaking, Grace is not the traditional CPU, it is based on Arm's Neoverse N2 core, using TSMC 4N process to build, this "super chip (Superchip)" has two types: CPU+CPU and CPU+GPU.
NVIDIA also recently unveiled its strongest AI and computing workload, GPU--GH200, which is equipped with the world's fastest HBM3e memory, and it will also be used by Grace Hopper super chips.

In the Hot Chips 2023 demonstration, NVIDIA Chief Scientist Bill Dally demonstrated performance comparisons between NVIDIA Grace Superchip and its competitors, including AMD EPYC 9654 (96 cores 192 threads) and Intel's flagship product Xeon Platinum 8480 + (56 cores 112 threads). According to Nvidia's official data, the NVIDIA Grace superchip provides a total of 144physical cores (72 Arm Neoverse V2 cores per chip) and supports 960 GB of LPDDR5X memory, with an original bandwidth of up to 1 TB / s and a total power consumption of 500W. Other specifications include a 117 MB L3 cache and 58 PCIe Gen5 channels.
NVIDIA test results show that Grace is about 40% stronger than AMD Genoa CPU in benchmarks such as Weather WRF, MD CP2K, Climate NEMO, CFD OpenFOAM and Graph Analytics GapBS BFS, and far ahead of Intel Sapphire Rapids CPU in the same benchmark.
However, its performance is actually comparable to that of Genoa in most scenarios, but the total TDP of the two chips of AMD reaches 640W, while the power consumption of Grace Superchip is only 500W.
However, when compared with Genoa in real large data center applications, Grace has a huge performance lead, such as 2.5x performance in 5 MW tests, and is far more efficient than the competition.
