CTOnews.com, Aug. 29-Nintendo Switch has surpassed Wii in total sales in the United States. According to GamesIndustry.biz, Circana (formerly known as NPD Group) revealed that Switch sold more than Wii in the United States in July 2023 and now lags behind Xbox 360s by less than 1 million and PS2 by less than 5 million.

As previously reported by CTOnews.com, the Switch surpassed Wii in global sales as early as February 2022, when it surpassed Wii's total sales of 101.63 million units. However, because Wii is so popular in North America, it will take longer for Switch to overtake it in the United States.

At its latest quarterly financial results launch earlier this month, Nintendo said it had sold 129.53 million Switch units worldwide as of the end of June 2023. Driven by the release of Legend of Zelda: tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo sold 3.91 million Switch in the three months from April to June 2023, up 13.9 per cent from a year earlier.

Nintendo predicts that its console sales will reach 15 million in the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2024, a drop of 16.5%, mainly because Switch will slow sharply in its seventh year on the market.

According to VGC sources, Nintendo has sent the Switch 2 development kit to key partners, which is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2024.
