CTOnews.com August 29, Dolby announced a new Dolby panoramic sound feature that matches the built-in sound of the TV with other wireless speakers in the room. The technology, officially known as Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, will debut on TCL TV in 2024.

Dolby explained that FlexConnect can "intelligently optimize sound" based on the layout of the room and the location of the speakers. The company says the technology will allow users to get rid of sound restrictions on room size, furniture positioning or power outlets.

FlexConnect will allow speakers to be placed anywhere in the room and calibrate each speaker to TV sound, creating a unique Dolby panoramic sound customized profile for each user's home.

Dolby says that because the acoustic mapping is done using the microphone built into the TV, the setup is fast and easy. These components position each speaker before performing the above audio calibration, "no matter where you sit in the room, you will get a more consistent immersive sound experience."

CTOnews.com notes that FlexConnect can adjust the sound effects of each speaker, even the built-in sound of the TV. For example, if the system notices a pair of speakers in front of the room, it can adjust the audio so that the TV handles most of the conversation, and the speakers are responsible for the rest of the front sound field. If there are two speakers at the back of the room, the TV will handle the conversation and the sound needed from the front of the room.
