According to news from CTOnews.com on August 29, Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the passenger Association, revealed that world car sales in July 2023 reached 7.15 million units, an increase of 6 percent over the same period last year. World car sales reached 49.6 million units from January to July in 2023, an increase of 10 per cent over the same period last year, with Chinese car companies accounting for 32 per cent of the total.

According to Cui Dongshu, ▲ Tu Yuan Riding Association, after a continuous decline from 2018 to 2020, car sales in the main countries of the world in 2021 were 81.35 million units, an increase of 4% over the same period last year. But there were only 80.18 million in 2022, down 1 per cent from a year earlier, and world car sales from January to July 2023 reached 49.6 million, up 10 per cent from a year earlier, but the trend was much lower than in the normal years of the previous calendar.

In terms of Chinese brands, Chinese cars accounted for about 30 per cent of the world in 2016-2018, falling to 29 per cent in 2019, but still have an absolute advantage. In terms of specific brands, so far, Toyota and Volkswagen are still the top two in global car sales, with a share of 12% and 9.7%, respectively. Among Chinese brands, BYD ranks 10th with 3.2 per cent market share, Geely 2.8 per cent, Changan 2.3 per cent, Chery 2.1 per cent and Great Wall 1.5 per cent.
