Mozilla officials said that screen sharing indicators did not work well on other platforms, including Wayland, and that many major Linux distributions provided sharing indicators natively, so they decided to remove them in the new version.

Firefox 117 also brings enhanced auto-filling of credit cards, new CSS compatibility tooltips in the developer tool Checker, improved CSS nesting (now enabled by default), support for RTCRtpScriptTransform, and new support for the CSS attribute math-style / math-depth / font-size: math.

According to Mozilla, screen sharing indicators have never worked well on other platforms, including Wayland. They also say that many popular Linux desktop environments already provide a sharing indicator, which is why they decided to delete it.
