On August 29, Log9, India's first electric car battery maker, warned that production plans at its Bangalore plant could be affected by India's delay in approving visas for Chinese experts.

"if Chinese engineers don't arrive on time, our battery production line will be affected," said Pankaj Sharma, co-founder and director of Tuyuan PixabayLog9. "We don't know how big the impact will be, but it may actually destabilize production."

Log9 relies on Chinese engineers to install imported equipment and upgrade existing equipment. The delay in visa issuance for about four months will affect the speed at which factories reach maximum capacity.

Earlier this month, an Indian government official said some manufacturers that rely on Chinese expertise had asked to speed up the approval of visa applications for Chinese suppliers.

Log9's Bangalore plant is currently the only manufacturing plant with an annual installed capacity of 250MW hours. Log9's batteries are mainly used in electric vehicles from logistics giants Maersk and Blue Dart Express, and the company also supplies electric vehicle manufacturers such as Quantum Energy and Hala Mobility in response to the Indian government's push for clean technology.

According to Sharma, Log9 has sold more than 1000 battery units so far this year, compared with more than 4000 last year, but declined to give specific production figures.

Investors in Log9 include Amara Raja Batteries and Petronas, which raised $40 million in January at a valuation of about $210 million. Mr Sharma said the company would launch its next round of financing at the end of this year or early next year.
