Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com, August 29, two lawsuits involving Tesla's Autopilot will be heard in September and October this year, respectively, which may affect the reputation of Tesla and his autopilot program. Mr Musk has said publicly that Tesla's autopilot project will determine whether the company can become a financially successful company. He has predicted many times that Tesla will achieve real autopilot, but it has not yet been realized.
The first case, scheduled for mid-September, involved a civil complaint alleging that Autopilot caused Mika Micah Lee's Model 3 to suddenly veer off the highway, crashing into a palm tree at 65 miles an hour (CTOnews.com Note: about 104.61 kilometers) and exploding into fire, Reuters reported. The accident in 2019 killed Li and seriously injured two other passengers. The lawsuit was filed by passengers and Li's family, and the plaintiff accused Tesla of still promoting the model when he knew his Autopilot kit and other safety systems were defective. Tesla denied responsibility for the accident and argued that Li drank before driving. Tesla also pointed out that it is not clear whether Autopilot was used at the time of the accident.
The second case, scheduled for early October, involved the fatal accident of Stephen Banner, whose Model 3 crashed into a trailer on the road. The accident caused the trailer to cut off Tesla's roof and Banner died on the spot. According to a lawsuit filed by Banner's spouse, Autopilot did not brake, turn or take any measures to avoid a collision at the time of the accident. Similar to Li's accident, Tesla insisted that the driver's error caused the fatal accident. Tesla also pointed out in court documents that when using Autopilot, drivers must always pay attention to the road conditions and hold the steering wheel with both hands. "there is no car that can really drive itself at present," Tesla pointed out.
