CTOnews.com, Aug. 28 (Xinhua)-- Apple's iPhone low-battery mode is a feature that reduces phone power consumption when the battery is less than 20%. According to CTOnews.com, when this mode is enabled, it will affect some functions, such as email acquisition, background application refresh, automatic download, 5G service and so on. But how much battery life can be increased by the low-power mode, and is it really effective?

YouTube blogger PhoneBuff conducted some tests on iPhone's low power mode in a recent video, but the results of his first test were not clear. He conducted two standard battery life tests with the same iPhone 12, one on low power mode and one off. Although the low-power mode iPhone took the lead several times, it only lasted five minutes longer than the normal mode. The test results seem to suggest that the low-battery mode has little effect on battery life.

For further verification, PhoneBuff conducted a second round of tests. This time, without the standby test, let iPhone run an application for two hours in a row, for a total of four applications for eight hours. After two hours of SMS application testing, the low power mode iPhone saved only 1% of the power, but in the browser test (opening the same group of websites every 30 seconds), the low power mode saved 3% of the power, 1% in the Gmail app and 1% of the Instagram app, and 6% of the power saved in the low power mode after a total of 8 hours of testing.

Finally, PhoneBuff conducted a third round of testing. This time he chose some test items that had a heavy burden on the processor, and the test found that the low power mode affected the speed of the application. After two hours of application switching testing, the low power mode maintains a 5% power advantage. Browser testing has increased by another 4 percentage points. After eight hours of testing, only 1% of the power was left in the normal mode of iPhone 12 and 13% in the low power mode.

So, in the end, the test shows that the low power mode does work. Of course, this is not a comprehensive test, and PhoneBuff points out that the low-power mode may be more effective for the older iPhone.
