CTOnews.com, August 28 (Xinhua)-- Global console shipments will reach an all-time high of more than 46 million units this year, up 14% from a year earlier, research firm TechInsights said in a statement today.

▲ TechInsights2022 Nintendo led the game console hardware market with a 40 per cent market share with its Switch OLED, while Sony, backed by PS5, had a 38 per cent market share in 2022. However, the situation has changed greatly this year.

CTOnews.com learned from TechInsights that according to the agency's forecast, Sony will sell more than 24 million units in 2023 and occupy the leading position in the global game console market with 53% market share. Nintendo, another console giant, will lose its global market share to 28% this year, giving up the first place to Sony.

TechInsights, the ▲ source Sony PS5 website, expects the next Switch 2 to be released in March or April next year, and the release of the new model will push Nintendo's global market share back to nearly 40%, not enough to pull Sony off the top spot.

Microsoft ranks third in the global console market, with the market share of Xbox Series X and S consoles hovering around 9 million units for years and around 20 per cent. Microsoft also offers users a variety of reasonably priced hardware plans and Game Pass subscriptions, which help attract new users to existing products, TechInsights said.
