CTOnews.com, August 27 (Xinhua) Apple iPad Pro 2022 has almost only upgraded from M1 chip to M2 chip compared with the 2021 model, but the official price has increased by 600 yuan, so many Apple users find it difficult to accept.

Bloomberg Mark Mark Gurman claims that Apple is preparing a "radical overhaul" of the iPad Pro series, which will be Apple's biggest update to the series since 2018.

By launching a "revamped iPad Pro", he said, Apple would have "the best chance to revive the market in years" and that the iPad Pro would undergo a transformation compared to previously released models.

It is said that the iPad codenamed J717, J718, J720 and J721 will be the first iPad models to use OLED displays, which will achieve better display results than existing Liquid retina (XDR) displays based on miniLED panels.

At the same time, Apple may change the size of the iPad Pro to expand from 12.9in to 13in, which will be launched along with an iterative version of the existing 11-inch model.

In addition, another major change in the new iPad Pro is the upgrade of major accessories. Apple will redesign the existing push keyboard Magic Keyboard (2020) to make the iPad Pro look more like a laptop and will bring a larger trackpad.

Goolman also noted that Apple is unlikely to launch a new iPad Pro line this fall, and it is clear that the September launch will focus more on iPhone and Apple Watch. He believes Apple will launch a new iPad Pro in the spring or early summer of 2024 at the earliest, which is in line with other forecasts for the model.

Analyst firm Omdia has previously said that Apple suppliers will begin mass production of a new generation of 11.1 and 13-inch iPad Pro models (11 inches and 12.9 inches in cash) in the first quarter of 2024, which will be equipped with OLED displays.

Compared with the existing LCD models, the OLED screen has the characteristic of self-luminous, eliminating the backlight module and color filter, which can theoretically reduce the thickness of iPad Pro and perform better in terms of power consumption, so the new machine will bring higher display brightness, higher contrast, more accurate color and lower power consumption.

Apple already uses OLED displays in product lines such as iPhone and Apple Watch (except for the lower-end iPhone SE).

In fact, iPad Pro models released in 2017 and later already support ProMotion technology, which can achieve a variable refresh rate between 24Hz and 120Hz, and switching to OLED may further reduce the refresh rate to 10Hz and lead to longer battery life. According to the Omdia research report, Apple will use a very thin hybrid OLED display (a combination of flexible and rigid materials), which may make the iPad Pro thinner.

According to Display Supply Chain Consultants's Ross Young, these panels are expensive to make, so the next generation of iPad Pro may also be more expensive.

The current iPad Pro, released in October 2022, features a M2 chip, faster Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.3 connections, and a second-generation Apple Pencil hover. Given that the iPad Pro update interval is usually about a year and a half, it makes sense to launch the next-generation model in early 2024.
