HKUST said that as the "Hong Kong University of Science and Technology-Xiongbin-1" sent back the first batch of earth environmental monitoring remote sensing data from space, the cooperation between HKUST and Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. has also been officially launched. the two will jointly build a multimodal remote sensing satellite constellation and build a comprehensive environmental monitoring and disaster forecasting system.

The "Hong Kong University of Science and Technology-Xiongbin 1" multispectral optical satellite: mainly used for scientific research purposes, its remote sensing image resolution is 0.5 meters and the image width is more than 150 kilometers, which is 20 times the resolution of the current public European Space Agency Sentinel II optical satellite, and its width is also similar to that of the latest generation of land satellites in the United States, which is the highest specification in the category of civil satellites.

First of all, HKUST will use the remote sensing data provided by satellites to establish a digital twin system covering all slopes in Hong Kong for monitoring the surface conditions, simulating and displaying the process of landslip disasters and social response to disasters, to help enhance social disaster response coordination and decision-making management.

Changguang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. was established on December 1, 2014. Through 21 successful launches, 108 "Jilin-1" satellites are in orbit, building the world's largest sub-meter commercial remote sensing satellite constellation.
