CTOnews.com, August 25, according to a list recently released by the US Trademark and Patent Office, Apple has obtained a patent called "system and method for locating mobile devices in a car," which outlines how to locate mobile devices such as the iPhone in a narrow space in the car.

CTOnews.com Note: at this stage, Find My service does not use UWB to track iPhone or iPad, but relies on GPS and other related auxiliary technologies to track, its positioning accuracy is not high, can not clearly tell users the exact location of iPhone in the car.

In addition to making phone calls, Apple outlines a new approach in its patent, which uses multiple signal generators and sensors all over vehicles to detect their location by cascading relevant sensors in mobile devices.

The patent outlines a variety of signal generation technologies, including infrared, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and audio sound.

The patent indicates that through the interaction between the signal generator and the sensor and using related algorithms to remove obstacles such as seats in the car, the position of mobile devices such as iPhone can be accurately located in the vehicle.

Apple also recommends using an inertial measurement unit (IMU) to do a similar job. As the vehicle moves, IMU continuously collects motion data, which is then collected and analyzed by the car's computer.
