Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com August 24 news, the USB-C data line for the iPhone 15 series has been exposed by technology blogger Kosutami and others. CTOnews.com yesterday obtained a "USB-C data cable that is said to be used by iPhone 15" from Kosutami, which now brings detailed hands-on analysis to the partners.

CTOnews.com reported earlier that Apple's iPhone 15 series will use a multi-color design for the first time, similar to the color Lightning cable that Apple shipped with the iMac keyboard, the iPhone 15 standard cable will be in color, and the Pro cable will have a black and white design. The cable currently obtained by CTOnews.com is said to be "supplied with the dark version of iPhone 15 Pro."

It can be seen from the cable label (hidden because of the production-related information) that the cable is produced by Suzhou Lixun Precision. After CTOnews.com testing, the data line supports a maximum of 60W charging power (20V3A), and the transmission speed is about from 35MB/s to 37MB/s, which is the nominal speed of USB 2.0. the parameters are the same as Apple's existing weaving USB-C public data lines, which is also consistent with the revelations of Apple blogger Majin Bu on the X platform.

Based on this, CTOnews.com speculated that the maximum charging power of iPhone 15 Pro may be between 40W and 50W.

The Type-C male interface on both sides of the data line adopts a non-full pin design, with 16 pins on both sides, and the two pins on the inside of the negative pole are lengthened for grounding, which is the consistent design of Apple USB-C interface. Compared with Apple's existing USB-C male-to-male braided cable, it has a thicker diameter, slightly harder braided material and two more pins.

According to the definition of USB-C specification, the two pins are SBU1 and VCONN, the former is used to detect the direction and state of the connector, and the latter is used to power the E-Marker chip of the cable.

According to Kosutami, the data line does not have an E-Marker chip. Therefore, CTOnews.com speculated that Apple may have adopted a port motherboard with E-Marker chip in the early stage of production, and changed to non-chip design in the middle and later stage, but did not redesign the USB-C connector.

The Type-C terminals on both sides of the cable are equipped with a black glossy plastic shell and an anti-bending tail tube at the end of the terminal. The inside of the tail tube is not glued to the braided fabric, but allows the woven fabric to extend to the inside of the terminal to increase durability. This design is similar to the USB-C to Lightning braided data line that Apple once provided for the Mac Pro.

According to Kosutami, Apple's packaging design team considered a variety of options, one of which was to redesign the package to fit into the cable; the other was to have the same cable as the existing USB-C public-to-public woven cable designed for iPad. This depends on whether the redesigned packaging can meet the requirements of Apple, if not, the newly designed data cable may be "defeated".

According to Kosutami, the cable will be equipped with a "specially designed anti-bending component" with a cable length of 1.5m, which is 50% longer than the existing specification. USB-C cable, which is said to be used by iPhone 15, is quite different from Apple's USB C to Lightning cable in the iPhone 14 series, and it is believed that the price will rise later.
