CTOnews.com, August 24 (Xinhua)-- A Japanese company called Tsubame Industries has unveiled a transfigurable and driverable robot called ARCHAX.

The robot has two modes, robot mode and vehicle mode. In robot mode, it can move arms and fingers like a human, up to 4.5 meters high; in vehicle mode, it can travel at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour and weigh about 3.5 tons. The robot is battery-powered, the cockpit is located in the chest, and has four displays and nine cameras inside, as well as an air-conditioning system. The driver can control the robot's movement through two joysticks and two pedals, and can switch modes through the touch screen.

The robot's name comes from Archaeopteryx, meaning it is the first of its kind.

Tsubame Industries is a company with only nine employees and is headquartered in Edo, Tokyo. The company is mainly engaged in the production of industrial and agricultural machinery, automobiles, spare parts and other equipment. Takuo Yoshida, the company's chief executive, said the company's goal of developing ARCHAX was to "turn the sci-fi world into a scientific reality" and that "it is a product that embodies Japan's strengths in animation and robot culture." He also said that the robot can be used in disaster relief, space development and other scenarios.

At present, the robot has begun to accept preorders for 400 million yen (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 20.12 million yuan). Because of the high price and limited use, buyers are expected to be very rich, just like those who buy supercars. Tsubame Industries is currently unable to mass-produce ARCHAX, but is considering using it for entertainment and other areas. Buyers can choose their favorite color when placing an order, and Tsubame Industries plans to deliver the robot within a year to a year and a half after receiving the order.

It is worth mentioning that Tsubame Industries also worked with Shoji Kawamori, co-creator of Fortress beyond time, to make his mechanical design a reality. Shoji Kawamori shared his photos with ARCHAX on his X account on August 19, and more details about the partnership between Tsubame Industries and Shoji Kawamori will be released in November. In addition, the public will be able to see ARCHAX at the upcoming Japan Mobile Exhibition 2023, which will be held at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center from October 26 to November 5.
