Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen for the clue delivery of rain and snow! CTOnews.com August 24 news,"Mass Effect" and "Dragon Age" and other classic game developers BioWare in recent years in trouble, there are high-level departures, but also facing competition and change in the industry. To address these challenges, BioWare's general manager Gary McKay announced a major decision: 50 layoffs.
McKay said in a statement that the layoffs were made to allow BioWare to become more agile and focused to meet the needs of future projects, maintain high quality standards, and ensure BioWare can continue to survive in a fast-growing industry. He also said BioWare will do its best to help affected employees find jobs at other EA subsidiaries.
CTOnews.com notes that BioWare is currently working on two highly anticipated games: a new Mass Effect release and Dragon Age 4. The latter is officially known as Dragon Age: Wolf of Fear, a sequel to the Dragon Age series. The game was first announced in 2018, but nothing has been heard since. Until 2020 at Gamescom, BioWare released a behind-the-scenes video showing some concept diagrams and assuring players that game development was progressing smoothly. Later that year, BioWare released a short trailer revealing the game's villain, Dreadwolf.
Three years later, however, the game was never heard from again. Instead, the news from BioWare was a series of personnel changes. Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah leave in 2020. In 2021, Matt Goldman, senior creative director of Dragon Age 4, also left. As recently as January 2023, Mac Walters, Dragon Age IV's production director, also left BioWare.
McKay stressed in the statement that the layoffs will allow the company to better continue developing Dragon Age 4, and BioWare's commitment to Dragon Age 4 has never wavered. He also said they believe there will be enough time to ensure Dragon Age IV reaches its best level. However, due to BioWare's massive brain drain and the lack of substantial updates to the game's progress, it's hard to know exactly how things are going.
