At present, China is in the forefront of the world in the three directions of 5G, especially in 5G enabling thousands of industries. 5G applications have been integrated into 60 major categories of national economy, the number of application cases is more than 50,000, and the number of Internet of things connections is more than 2 billion. Enter the era of "thing Superman" of network connection. Behind the excellent results, it is inseparable from the support of many 5G technologies. So how can we have a relatively clear understanding of 5G technology? Recently, Li Yan, vice president of technical standards of Qualcomm, used a very vivid analogy to enable the public to have a more concise understanding of the structure of 5G innovative technology.

Li Yan likens 5G innovation to a big tree, and the core technology provides basic nutrients and support for the tree, forming the "trunk" part. Some technologies and inventions allow 5G to touch more industries and fields, that is, "branches". The specific application and invention in each field is "leaves". Qualcomm is in a unique position in the mobile technology ecology, not only contributing to the core trunk of 5G innovation, but also an important force in promoting the diversified development of 5G in various industries. Qualcomm's basic inventions are important technical support for many 5G industry applications, such as direct communication between cars, high-precision indoor positioning for future factories, general standards for satellite and terrestrial communications, and low-power communication technology for the Internet of things, as well as 5G innovations such as broadcasting, drones and sharing licensed spectrum.

In the field of license-free spectrum communication, Qualcomm began to explore the use of license-free spectrum to meet the growing demand for LTE bandwidth. Qualcomm continues to optimize the use of license-free spectrum, and further evolved into NR-U technology in 5G. NR-U helps alleviate the scarcity of 5G spectrum resources and speed up 5G deployment. At present, the 5G enterprise private network, which is based on the license-free spectrum, is already providing support for enterprises to deploy the Internet of things.

In the field of satellite communications, Qualcomm used satellite positioning trucks as early as 30 years ago, and Qualcomm's CDMA technology also applies satellite communication technology to the ground. With its long-term accumulation in the field of satellite communications, Qualcomm has led the technological development of the non-terrestrial network NTN standard in the latest 5G standard Rel 17, promoting 5G to achieve true global coverage.
