Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen OC_Formula for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, August 23 (Xinhua) recently, many users who own Bambu Lab 3D printers have found that their printers "automatically" start printing tasks at night, causing some printing works to be damaged and even some printers to be damaged. Bambu has identified the cause of the problem and is implementing software fixes to prevent users from worrying about whether their 3D printers are "haunted or self-awakened".
Bambu confirmed that a recent cloud failure on its overseas server disrupted the remote functionality of its 3D printer, causing it to start printing tasks at night without the owner's consent. The company is taking a number of new security measures to ensure that similar situations do not happen again.
A Bambu survey showed that on the night of August 15, a MQTT SDK client timed out and disrupted the cloud infrastructure responsible for remote 3D printing tasks. During the two disconnections, the printer connected to the cloud queued up and started the print task, while the owner was sleeping. Some printers repeat the printing task without confirming the completion of the first task, thus destroying the work that is still on the platform, and even some devices themselves are damaged.
Bambu said it took full responsibility and updated the firmware to increase security steps in the printing process and give users more control. Thanks to the LIDAR (lidar), X1 series printers can add a function to check whether there are objects on the platform before starting the printing task. Since there is no LIDAR in P1 series printers, users will be required to check the platform and confirm before starting printing. In addition, the system will strictly check the task timestamp to reduce the possibility of error repetition.
Perhaps the most serious problem with this accident is that the heat generated by the 3D printer may cause a fire hazard, so all updated Bambu printers will turn off the heater and alert the user if an abnormal temperature is detected. In addition, Bambu plans to improve the LAN model so that users can remotely control their printers without connecting to the Internet or the company cloud, and local file management and download features are coming soon.
CTOnews.com noted that Bambu has not yet provided a schedule for the release of patches, but does provide repair and replacement services for damaged printers. The company will also compensate for wasted thermoplastic consumables and guarantee two plates of randomly selected PLA consumables free of charge.
