Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizen Coje_He for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, August 23, the latest blog post from Google runtime introduces the advantages of ART (Android Runtime) and its new ability to update independently of the operating system.
ART is the engine that powers Android and is responsible for compiling Java and Kotlin into bytecode and execution. Even without a complete operating system update, ART updates will allow Google to speed up its applications. Google said that with the launch of ART, the 13th version of Android, "on some devices, real applications start up up to 30 per cent faster".
ART is officially a modular part of the operating system (APEX module) in Android 12, allowing it to be updated through the Play store rather than system updates. Based on current Android distribution data, this means that about 31% of users (or 600 million users) get a better, faster application engine on a regular basis. While many components have been slowly transferred to APEX modules, Google says ART is the largest and "has an order of magnitude more API than any other APEX module".
CTOnews.com notes that Google has begun to version control of ART like a major software project, and with the launch of Android 14, "ART 14" will follow. However, the latest version of ART will not be limited to Android 14 Art 14 and most of its improvements will also be pushed to older versions of the operating system, so you can run ART 14 on Android 12 phones.
As for ART 13, Google provided the above chart to show the timing of the new update and its impact on the average application startup time. Google detailed some changes to ART 13 when it released Android at 13:00, saying that ART 13 makes native code switch faster and JNI calls 2.5 times faster. ART "also performs more bytecode validation during installation, avoiding the overhead of run-time verification and keeping the application fast to start", resulting in a 30% reduction in startup time for some devices.
Google said the ART 14 update will upgrade Android from OpenJDK 11 to OpenJDK 17, "as well as new compilers and runtime optimizations to improve performance while reducing code size."
