While many components have been slowly transferred to APEX modules, Google says ART is the largest and "has an order of magnitude more API than any other APEX module".

As for ART 13, Google provided the above chart to show the timing of the new update and its impact on the average application startup time. Google detailed some changes to ART 13 when it released Android at 13:00, saying that ART 13 makes native code switch faster and JNI calls 2.5 times faster. ART "also performs more bytecode validation during installation, avoiding the overhead of run-time verification and keeping the application fast to start", resulting in a 30% reduction in startup time for some devices.

Google said the ART 14 update will upgrade Android from OpenJDK 11 to OpenJDK 17, "as well as new compilers and runtime optimizations to improve performance while reducing code size."
