CTOnews.com, Aug. 23-Microsoft has been promoting its products to Windows and Edge users in a variety of ways, such as pop-up ads, banners, or constantly prompting users to change their default browsers or search engines, reset application defaults, or turn on telemetry data collection. Although users have repeatedly asked Microsoft to reduce these practices, Microsoft does not seem to have the intention to stop. Recently, Microsoft has made a new attempt to send Windows ads to Chrome users, begging them to make Bing the default search engine.

Steven Parker, co-founder of Neowin, found the ad on his Windows 10 computer this morning. The ad uses some temptations, such as promising to "improve the search experience", "giving away Microsoft bonus points", "providing new artificial intelligence-driven Bing" and so on. CTOnews.com noted that unlike the Windows 11 upgrade prompt with only two "yes" buttons, the ad also allows users to reject the offer with the "do not switch" button. It is reported that the advertisement first appeared in June 2023.

Not only do intrusive ads appear in the lower right corner of the screen, but users also find an unknown process called "BGAUpsell" in the C:\ Windows\ Temp\ MUBSTemp folder and cannot be accessed.

Pushing Bing ads to Chrome users may be an experiment aimed at a specific audience in a specific region or other criteria. The Virustotal scan shows that the executable file ping several browser-related parameters, such as browser version, default settings, identifiers, and so on.

Although Microsoft has some excellent products, the company is too aggressive in marketing, constantly annoying its core audience for a small number of new customers.
