CTOnews.com, August 22 (Xinhua) Volkswagen has begun production of its new flagship electric sedan, the ID.7, at its plant in Emden, Germany. The ID.7 is by far Volkswagen's largest electric car, and it is also the second global model based on the MEB platform after the ID.4.

Volkswagen posted on its social media account on Monday that it had "celebrated the symbolic launch of production of the car" at the Emden plant.

The ID.7 will be one of 10 new Volkswagen electric vehicles to be launched between now and 2026. Volkswagen also plans to launch an entry-level model that costs less than 25000 euros (CTOnews.com Note: about 199000 yuan currently) and, together with ID.7, a new electric compact SUV.

Volkswagen first unveiled its ID.7 electric sedan at the CES show in January, when it promised to launch a flagship electric car that is more powerful and efficient than any MEB-based model it has released so far. Volkswagen officially launched the ID.7 in April and launched it simultaneously in major markets such as North America, Europe and China. ID.7 will first launch the Pro version, which has a 77-kilowatt-hour battery and a range of 382miles (about 614.77 km). In addition, an ID.7 Pro S will be launched with an 86-kilowatt-hour battery with a range of 435 miles (700.06 km).

Volkswagen says its new "electric limousine" is designed for long trips, with long range, spacious and comfortable interiors and state-of-the-art technology. Volkswagen calls its flagship electric car an "efficiency champion" with optimized aerodynamics and a new generation of drive systems. The ID.7, by far the most aerodynamic ID, has a low front, a sports car-like roof and a narrowing rear. In addition, the ID.7 has an almost completely closed chassis and a newly developed wheel cover that guides air flow with minimal energy loss.

The electric car is expected to go on sale in Europe this autumn and then in North America in 2024 as Volkswagen launches production of the ID.7 at its Emden plant on Monday. Volkswagen has invested more than 1 billion euros to transform the plant to adapt to the new electric era.

At the same time, the new domestic ID.7 VIZZION model is expected to go on sale in the domestic market in September, and the starting price may remain around 250000 yuan. The new car will provide rear-drive single-motor and dual-motor four-wheel-drive models for consumers to choose from, single-motor version of the maximum power 150kW, and adapted to 84.8kWh ternary lithium battery pack, CLTC has a maximum range of 642km, while dual-motor models will add the front motor of 80kW to the head.
