CTOnews.com, August 22 (Xinhua) according to a new report from the Atlas team, consumers in Latvia are the top mobile data consumers in the world, with each mobile user using nearly 42GB mobile data per month on average.

The report is based on information provided by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Latvia ranked first mainly because Latvians have access to high-speed mobile networks in urban areas and unlimited operator data packages, the researchers said.

Latvia is closely followed by Finland, which uses 41GB's mobile data every month. Finland's "advanced telecommunications infrastructure" and "technology-savvy culture" put Finland in second place, OECD said. In addition, Finns are generally considered early adopters of new technologies and can enjoy unlimited data packages.

In third place is Austria, whose citizens use 30GB's mobile data approximately every month. Only one country outside Europe made it into the top 10: Chile. Chileans use 19GB's mobile data about every month. At the same time, 9GB's mobile data is not available every month in the UK, the US and Germany.

The researchers also considered another important factor: the number of mobile broadband subscriptions. In Estonia, each consumer has about two separate subscriptions, one of which is mainly used for devices other than smartphones, and the average Japanese have nearly two mobile subscriptions per person.

With the popularity of 5G technology around the world, mobile data usage will only "explode". Smart home devices, connected cars, and all other devices in the category of the Internet of things (IoT) will increase mobile Internet usage exponentially.
