CTOnews.com August 22 news, Tesla's senior vice president of engineering Colin Campbell (Colin Campbell) announced his departure, he will join Tesla co-founder and board member JB Straubel founded Redwood Materials company.

Campbell was one of Tesla's earliest engineers. He joined Tesla in 2006, when Tesla was just a small startup planning to launch an electric sports car, Roadster. As Tesla grew from a start-up to one of the largest companies in the world, Campbell continued to rise among the powertrain team, becoming Director of Power Electronics Engineering in 2016 and soon to Senior Director, responsible for all powertrain development, including electrical, mechanical and manufacturing engineering for high-power electronics, motors, gearboxes, battery packs and charging systems.

Recently, he served as vice president of powertrain for Tesla, but he has now announced that he is leaving the company after 17 years in the job. Campbell announced on LinkedIn today that he will join Redwood as CTO after leaving Tesla.

CTOnews.com notes that Campbell will work with his longtime colleague JB Straubel, who was Tesla's co-founder and longtime CTO before leaving in 2019 to start Redwood, a company that tries to create a North American battery supply chain by producing and recycling positive and negative materials.

Campbell said: "I spent an incredible 17 years at Tesla, and as an engineer, I can't summarize how many valuable technical challenges I have encountered in building exciting, safe, reliable and increasingly affordable electric vehicles. My time in the company started when we hardly had a viable concept, and ended with millions of Tesla cars driving around the world. We have not only had an impact on global emissions, but also changed the world's perception of transport forever and helped shape the product roadmap of almost all other carmakers. It's more meaningful and unforgettable than I thought. "
