CTOnews.com August 22 news, Apple is expected to release the iPhone 15 series in three weeks, and four weeks after the start of shipping. However, the highest-end iPhone 15 Pro Max may be delayed until October because the image sensor is not ready, because Apple's camera parts supplier Sony is unable to provide the image sensor used in the iPhone 15 Pro Max in time. 9to5Mac reports the news comes from an analyst report from Morgan Stanley.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max will feature a periscope lens system, which will give it optical zoom power over 3x its current size, the biggest camera upgrade in the iPhone 15 series, while the smaller iPhone 15 Pro won't get this upgrade. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will feature ultra-wide and wide-angle cameras, but no telephoto cameras.

Apple is expected to release the new iPhone on September 12 along with the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2. Bookings will likely begin Sept. 15 and shipments will begin Sept. 22. The three-to-four-week delay described by Morgan Stanley analysts could result in the iPhone 15 Pro Max shipping between Oct. 6 and Oct. 13.

CTOnews.com notes that Apple has also seen some iPhone models ship later than others in the past few years. For example, the iPhone XR shipped later than the iPhone XS, and the iPhone 14 Plus shipped later than the iPhone 14.

The iPhone 15 series is expected to replace the Lightning charging port with a USB-C port, and the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will adopt the Smart Island design introduced by the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Titanium metal will replace stainless steel for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the Pro model will replace the standard mute switch with an action button similar to that on the Apple Watch Ultra.
