CTOnews.com, August 21 (Xinhua)-- the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched the lunar probe Lunar ship 3 (Chandrayaan-3) on the afternoon of July 14, four years after the agency's last failed mission.

According to the plan, the Lunar ship-3 lander will land on the moon at around 20:34 on August 23, Beijing time. ISRO will broadcast the landing live.

According to ISRO, before trying to land on the moon, the Indian lunar probe Lunar ship 3 has now established a communication connection with Lunar ship 2, which has been orbiting the moon for the past four years.

Previously, the Indian "lunar ship 2" probe failed to land on the lunar surface, but its orbiter operated normally and carried out experiments as designed.

According to the plan, Lunar ship 3 will make a soft landing near the South Pole of the moon before August 23. If successful, India will become the fourth country after the United States, the former Soviet Union and China to make a soft landing on the lunar surface.

CTOnews.com inquiry found that Moonship 2, the predecessor of Moonship 3, lost signal at a distance of 2.1km from the lunar surface in September 2019, which also led to the failure of India's first lunar landing, but the orbiter, which was part of the mission with eight scientific instruments, was still in operation, continuing its seven-year research mission.
