Due to weak customer demand, more and more silicon wafer mills are asked to "delay shipments". Coupled with the continuous increase of new production capacity of silicon wafer factories themselves, Taiwan media believe that the "oversupply" of silicon wafer production capacity will continue until 2025.

Taiwan media believe that the main reason for the low demand in the silicon wafer industry is that "consumer electronics demand continues to be sluggish." although silicon wafer factories have begun to reduce production, the inventory of major silicon wafer factories is still at an all-time high.

According to research firm TECHCET, due to the overall slowdown in the semiconductor industry, overall silicon wafer shipments will fall by 7% in 2023. Due to the slowdown in shipments and the increase in wafer inventory, wafer prices will fall in the near future, while total wafer shipments in 2024 are expected to rebound and grow by about 8%.

TECHCET pointed out that the top five wafer suppliers (SEH, Sumco, Global Wafers, Siltronic and SK Siltron) had previously announced that they would invest in new production lines to expand related capacity, and that expansion projects were being launched one after another, which would lead to continued capacity growth for some time. According to the situation of the market and the supply chain, Taiwan media believe that the "oversupply" of silicon wafer production capacity is likely to continue after 2025.
