CTOnews.com, August 21 (Xinhua)-- Croatian carmaker Rimac announced over the weekend that its electric supercar Rimac Nevera broke the record for the fastest lap time of mass-produced electric cars at the Nurburgring, with a time of 7 minutes 05.298 seconds.

It is said that the track is 20.6km long, Croatian racing driver Martin Codric drove a Nevera with Michelin Cup2R tires to create a record-breaking lap.

Before that, the fastest lap time record for mass-produced electric cars was controlled by a Tesla Model S Plaid equipped with a track performance kit with a lap time of 7 minutes 25 seconds. This also means that the lap time of Rimac Nevera is nearly 20 seconds faster than that of Tesla.

The CEO of Rimac said, "Nevera has reshaped the world of supercars, bringing new technologies, new capabilities and new levels of performance. But the easiest way for us to show its performance is to break records. And that's what we did again and again in 2023."

CTOnews.com previously reported that the Rimac Nevera is equipped with a 120kWh battery pack and a motor on each of the four tires, and the whole system can produce the maximum horsepower of the total power 1942PS and the peak torque of the 2362N.m. At present, Rimac Nevera is the fastest mass-produced electric car in the world.

Rimac Automobili was founded in 2009, has been committed to the development of the most advanced electric supercars. Rimac's first electric car, the Concept_One, was launched in 2016 and was considered one of the fastest production cars in the world at the time, even though it produced only eight.

Rimac's second electric car, the Concept_Two, was unveiled in 2018 and eventually evolved into a mass-production version, the Nevera. Rimac promises that the Nevera will be produced on a larger scale and is expected to produce 150 vehicles at a price of $2.4 million each (currently about 17.544 million yuan). The price is not cheap, but as people say, every penny is worth a penny.
