Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--

CTOnews.com, August 21 (Xinhua) Honda recently confirmed that its Honda and Acura electric vehicles sold in the North American market will use the NACS charging interface designed by Tesla, a decision influenced by GM's adoption of the charging standard and Honda's reliance on GM's electric vehicle platform.

Honda was expected to announce the adoption of the NACS standard because it already has a lot of support, and GM has announced that it will use the NACS standard in its electric vehicles from 2025.

Considering that the two electric cars Honda will launch in North America, the Prologue and Acura ZDX, both use GM's Ultium platform, Honda will have to follow suit.

CTOnews.com noted that Honda executives confirmed the news in an interview with Autoblog. Noriya Kaihara, president and CEO of Honda Motor Co., said: "this is very important, and we must also promote the NACS standard, which is clear." Shinji Aoyama, executive vice president of Honda, added: "We are obviously dependent on GM. Once they [turn to NACS], ZDX will follow."

This means Honda will switch to the NACS standard in 2025, but the company has not yet reached an agreement with Tesla to use the Tesla network of supercharging stations or to obtain adapters. However, judging from Honda's praise for the maintenance of Tesla's supercharging station, Jay Joseph, vice president of sustainability and business development, this seems to be the company's follow-up plan.

While being able to use the Tesla supercharging network will help Honda's electric car buyers, Honda is one of seven car giants that have announced a partnership to build a new electric vehicle charging network in North America.
