CTOnews.com, August 20 (Xinhua)-- the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) successfully launched the lunar probe Lunar ship 3 (Chandrayaan-3) on the afternoon of July 14, four years after the agency's last failed mission.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has announced that the Lunar ship 3 lander will land on the moon around 20:34 on August 23, Beijing time, when the landing will be broadcast live.

"Moonboat 3" was carried on the Indian heavy carrier rocket LVM3, which is 43.5m high and weighs about 642t. ISRO Chairman Somanath said that the launch mission has been a complete success, and then Moonboat 3 will begin its own journey to the moon.

According to the plan, Lunar ship 3 will make a soft landing near the South Pole of the moon before August 23. If successful, India will become the fourth country after the United States, the former Soviet Union and China to make a soft landing on the lunar surface.

CTOnews.com inquiry found that Lunar ship 2, the predecessor of Lunar ship 3, lost its signal 2.1km from the moon in September 2019, which also led to the failure of India's first lunar landing plan. Lunar ship 3 includes a propulsion module, a lander and a rover. Its main goal is to demonstrate the ability to land on the moon and roam the lunar surface to help develop new technologies for interplanetary missions.
