CTOnews.com August 20 news, Adobe website announced that co-founder Dr. John Warnock has died at the age of 82. Warnock and Dr. Charles Geschke co-founded Adobe in 1982. the first product is Adobe PostScript, which is available here in his biography.

Warnock retired as CEO in 2000 and co-chaired the board with Geschke until 2017. He has been a member of the board ever since. In recognition of their technological achievements, Dr. Warnock was awarded the prestigious National Medal of Technology and Innovation; the computer Entrepreneur Award from the IEEE computer Association; the American Electronics Association Achievement Medal; and the Marconi Award for his contributions to information science and communications.

I am deeply saddened to announce the death of our beloved co-founder, Dr. John Warnock, at the age of 82.

John's talent and technological innovation changed the world. It was a sad day for the Adobe community and the industry as a whole, and he has been an inspiration for the Adobe community and industry for decades.

Dr. John and Dr. Chuck Geschke founded Adobe with PostScript in 1982, which led to a revolution in desktop publishing. His vision and passion enabled Adobe to provide groundbreaking innovations, such as the common PDF file formats Illustrator and Acrobat, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, that defined the desktop age and unleashed creativity and opportunities for millions of people.

John is widely regarded as one of the greatest inventors of our generation and has had a great influence on how we communicate with words, images and videos. Among many other awards, President Barack Obama awarded him the National Medal for Technology and Innovation in 2008, one of the highest honors granted by the United States to scientists, engineers, and inventors; the computer Entrepreneur Award from the IEEE computer Association; the American Electronics Association Medal for Achievement; and the Marconi Award for contributions to information science and communications. John retired as CEO in 2000 and co-chaired the board with Chuck until 2017. After that, he continued to serve on the board of directors.

Although the impact of his innovation is innumerable, it is his indomitable spirit, enthusiasm and belief in building a company with strong values that affect all of us who are fortunate to work at Adobe. John has an incredible insight into which technologies can satisfy customers and create business value. John and his wife Marva (a graphic artist) often use our products and set standards for customer empathy.

My interaction with John over the past 25 years has been the highlight of my career. At breakfast with John and Chuck, we imagine the future, but it is our conversations about books, art, world history and politics that give me a unique insight into John, a true Renaissance man. Although he is my role model and mentor, I am very grateful to regard him as a friend.

When I reflect on the loss that will leave a huge gap in our lives, I think back to when I met John a few months ago on the 30th anniversary of Acrobat. After the event, we celebrated the impact of Acrobat and PDF on the communications world and discussed the potential of Firefly to transform the next generation of creative technologies. With a twinkle in his eyes, he said he was surprised by the progress made and continued to provide feedback on how we could do better!

I feel the same as Marva and his family. What he wants most is to continue his amazing career, so let's continue to make him proud.
