CTOnews.com, August 20 (Xinhua)-- Rolls-Royce recently unveiled its first modern two-seater roadster, the Drop Tail (Shadow), a custom car built in four years with four customers, returning to the convertible style that established its luxury brand status a century ago.

Rolls-Royce said the car represented the "absolute pinnacle" of its internal body manufacturing capacity. The new car is the latest member of its super-rare, tens of millions of pounds special series after the 2017 Sweptail and the 2021 Boat Tail. Rolls-Royce did not disclose the price of the car, but it is understood that all four Drop Tail sold for more than the £20 million (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 186 million yuan) Boat Tail.

Drop Tail is not based on the discontinued Dawn convertible, but uses a completely new monolithic chassis made of steel, aluminum and carbon fiber, the first attempt by the body manufacturing department.

On the power side, the Drop Tail carries the familiar twin-turbocharged 6.75L V12 engine, which is specially tuned to increase 30 horsepower compared to the Phantom, but reduces torque by 44 lb-ft, with a total output of 593hp and 620lb-ft. Rolls-Royce does not release any performance data, but there is no doubt that the Drop Tail will be quite close to the V12 Dawn, with an acceleration time of less than 5 seconds at 0-62 mph and a top speed of 155mph (about 249.45 km / h).

The Drop Tail is 5.3m long and 2m wide, which is smaller than the electric Spectre. Its fully customized profile gives the new car more athletic features than mainstream Rolls-Royce models and is further enhanced by a blade-shaped rear wheel arch and a large carbon fiber rear diffuser. The removable roof is also made of carbon fiber, which makes it easier for drivers or their servants to install and remove. It also has a large piece of electrochromic glass, which can be adjusted by pressing a button.

Aerodynamics plays an important role in shaping Drop Tail. Rolls-Royce points out that its sloping back end is "usually not conducive to generating downforce", meaning that it is less stable at high speeds without external assistance. Instead of installing a spoiler, Rolls-Royce adjusted the design of the tail to create the necessary downforce without compromising its appearance, a process that took two years and 20 iterations.

The front-end design of the Drop Tail is more familiar, but the intake grille is curved and ends at a chamfer rather than a right angle. Rolls-Royce said the adjustments reflected the "casual spirit" of the car.

This "casual" approach has also been continued in the interior, and Rolls-Royce's design goal is to create an "intimate" environment. The switch is hidden as much as possible, only three buttons remain in the field of view, and the electric center console can be moved to cover the infotainment control knob. Rolls-Royce said it was "the most complex, laborious and expensive handicraft" produced by its Goodwood plant.

Each Drop Tail is equipped with a custom Audemars Piguet watch and can also be used as the vehicle's clock, mounted on the dashboard through a snap mechanism.

Rolls-Royce will create a total of four Drop Tail works, each of which reflects the customer's unique personality, the first of which is named La Rose Noire.
