CTOnews.com, August 19 (Xinhua)-- A taxi from GM's driverless company Cruise collided with a fire engine in San Francisco on Thursday night local time.

Cruise said in a statement on Friday local time that the car "did detect the danger of a collision and activated braking measures to slow down the speed, but ultimately failed to avoid the collision." Police said the fire engine was on its way to emergency rescue, and another passenger on the self-driving car was injured and was taken to a local hospital without life-threatening.

California's car regulator said on Friday that it had launched an investigation into "a series of worrying incidents" at Cruise recently, ordering Cruise to stop driving half of the self-driving cars it has launched so far.

This is not the first accident that happened to Cruise's self-driving taxis. Not long ago, on August 17, CTOnews.com reported another accident: a Cruise self-driving taxi stumbled into a construction site in San Francisco and the front wheel got stuck in wet concrete and could not move. The move comes a day after California regulators approved driverless taxi companies to operate around the city 24 hours a day.

In the days after San Francisco gave the green light to Waymo and Cruise's self-driving taxi service, at least 10 self-driving cars caused traffic jams, one of which even crashed directly into unhardened concrete in the road construction zone, foreign media TechCrunch reported.
