CTOnews.com, August 19 (Xinhua) according to Bloomberg, US companies represented by Intel and Apple have recently set up new business groups to protest against India's imposition of PC import restrictions to the US Department of Commerce, claiming that the move will undermine New Delhi's ambitions to become a global manufacturing center and hurt consumers.

CTOnews.com previously reported that India announced licensing requirements for imported laptops, tablets and personal computers on August 4th in an effort to boost local manufacturing.

Industry executives say the import licensing system in India means extending the waiting time for each product to enter the Indian market, especially considering applying in advance to meet sales demand during the holiday season.

The measure was originally announced to take effect immediately on August 4, but it was subsequently postponed to November 1 due to resistance from all sides.

The business group, including eight US multinationals, including Apple and Intel, sent a letter to the US Department of Commerce, hoping to get India to reconsider this measure through government-to-government communication.

According to a joint memo seen by Bloomberg, the business group believes that India's new rules "could seriously disrupt trade, hinder India's efforts to integrate more closely into global supply chains, and hurt businesses and consumers in both countries".
