CTOnews.com, August 18 (Xinhua) A few days ago, researchers have developed an aluminum ion battery cathode material using an organic redox polymer, which has a higher battery capacity than conventional graphite batteries. CTOnews.com noted that the electrode material has successfully carried out 5000 charging cycles and maintained 88 per cent capacity at 10 degrees Celsius, marking significant progress in the development of aluminum batteries.

A team led by Dr Birgit Esser of the University of Ulm, Dr Ingo Krossing of the University of Freiburg and Professor Anna Fischer recently carried out the study and made the progress, which was published in the journal Energy & Environmental Science.

In the experiment, the storage capacity of the "aluminum battery" using this electrode material reached 167mA / g (mAh / g), which had never been achieved before. The researchers said that "the capacity of this organic redox polymer has exceeded that of graphite" and is expected to gradually replace related battery materials in the future.
