VIPSHOP's total net income in the second quarter was 27.9 billion yuan ($3.8 billion), up 13.6 percent from 24.5 billion yuan in the same period in 2022, according to the financial report. The net profit attributable to VIPSHOP's shareholders was 2.1 billion yuan ($289.3 million), up 63.5 percent from 1.3 billion yuan in the same period in 2022. Excluding Non-GAAP, the net profit attributable to VIPSHOP shareholders was 2.4 billion yuan ($331.2 million), up 50.8% from 1.6 billion yuan in the same period in 2022.
Second quarter operating results:
GMV was 50.6 billion yuan, an increase of 24.5% compared with 40.6 billion yuan in the same period in 2022.
The number of active users was 45.7 million, an increase of 9.6 per cent compared with 41.7 million in the same period in 2022.
The total number of orders was 2.138 billion, an increase of 14.7% compared with 1.863 billion in the same period in 2022.
Financial results for the second quarter:
Total net revenue was 27.9 billion yuan ($3.8 billion), up 13.6% from 24.5 billion yuan in the same period in 2022.
Gross profit was 6.2 billion yuan ($855.3 million), up 23.4% from 5 billion yuan in the same period in 2022. The gross margin was 22.2%, compared with 20.5% in the same period in 2022.
The overall operating expenditure was 4.5 billion yuan ($617.8 million), an increase of 13.7% compared with 3.9 billion yuan in the same period in 2022.
The expenditure on implementation was 2.2 billion yuan ($300.8 million), an increase of 22.8% compared with 1.8 billion yuan in the same period in 2022.
Marketing expenditure was 892.5 million yuan ($123.1 million), an increase of 60.6 percent compared with 555.6 million yuan in the same period in 2022.
Expenditure on technology and content was 443 million yuan ($61.1 million), an increase of 7.6 percent compared with 411.8 million yuan in the same period in 2022.
General and administrative expenses were 963.1 million yuan ($132.8 million), down 19.4 per cent compared with 1.2 billion yuan in the same period in 2022.
Operating profit was 1.9 billion yuan ($264.3 million), up 51.1 percent from 1.3 billion yuan in the same period in 2022.
Without Non-GAAP, operating profit was 2.3 billion yuan ($316.9 million), up 48.2% from 1.6 billion yuan in the same period in 2022.
The net profit attributable to VIPSHOP's shareholders was 2.1 billion yuan ($289.3 million), up 63.5 percent from 1.3 billion yuan in the same period in 2022.

As of June 30, 2023, VIPSHOP had cash, cash equivalents and restricted cash of 18.3 billion yuan ($2.5 billion) and short-term investment of 1.5 billion yuan ($200.2 million).
Performance outlook:
VIPSHOP expects total net revenue in the third quarter of 2023 to reach 21.6 billion to 22.7 billion yuan, up 0 to 5 per cent from a year earlier.
