CTOnews.com August 18 news, Slovak chip design company Tachyum recently issued a press release, saying that using the new computer-aided design tool (EDA), the estimated number of cores of its Prodigy general-purpose processors increased by 50% from 128to 192.

Tachyum in the press release, in addition to increasing the number of Prodigy processor cores, the number of SerDes blocks responsible for two-way high-speed communication between serial and parallel interfaces also increased from 64 to 96.

The area of the Prodigy processor has also increased slightly, from 500sqmm to 600smm, an increase of 20 per cent.

Tachyum says that in theory, the surface area can be increased to up to 858 square millimeters, and more cores can be added.

Tachyum called Prodigy the world's first "general-purpose processor" and said it was designed from the beginning as a multi-purpose CPU capable of running many of the world's most intensive computing applications.

Not only does Prodigy handle all these different tasks on a single chip, but its power budget is one-tenth lower than traditional hardware at a cost of only 1/3.

Tachyum boldly claims that the Prodigy supercomputer chip has four times the performance of Intel's fastest Xeon chip on the market, three times the original performance of the Nvidia H100 in high-performance computing applications, and a 10-fold increase in energy efficiency.
