CTOnews.com August 18 news, market research firm IDC released a report, due to slower-than-expected hardware development, quantum computer estimated customer spending has been greatly reduced. The agency also said that new technologies with greater short-term value, including generative AI, were gobbling up money originally used for quantum computers.

IDC released its first quantum computer industry report in 2021, predicting that expenditure costs would increase from $412 million in 2020 to $8.6 billion by 2027 (CTOnews.com Note: currently about 62.78 billion yuan), with a six-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 50.9%.

In its latest report, IDC says quantum computing spending will grow from $1.1 billion in 2022 to $7.6 billion (currently about 55.48 billion yuan) in 2027, with a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 48.1%.

IDC said in the report that quantum computing is currently only suitable for small-scale experiments, although there are obvious advantages, but many applications remain in the hype stage.
