CTOnews.com, Aug. 17 (Reuters)-Harvard University's research team recently used Google's cloud platform to replace a "supercomputer designed to study heart disease." the team claimed that this "innovation" can bypass the reality of the shortage and high cost of supercomputers and speed up scientific research while saving costs, so it is worth other researchers to follow suit.

Petros Koumoutsakos, a professor at Harvard University of ▲ Reuters, said their ongoing research simulates a treatment that dissolves blood clots and tumor cells in the human circulatory system and requires supercomputers to provide powerful computing power.

Petros Koumoutsakos also said: "the biggest problem encountered by the research team is that full-size supercomputers cannot be used to run simulations." Expensive supercomputers are also needed to continue to improve or optimize the simulation process, but only a few supercomputers in the US can perform hundreds of millions of calculations to accurately simulate the research conditions needed for Koumoutsakos, he added.

To eliminate these bottlenecks, researchers are turning to Google's public cloud platforms for computing.
