CTOnews.com, August 17 (Xinhua)-- according to the latest report released by market research firm Counterpoint Research, smartphone shipments are estimated to be 1.15 billion units in 2023, down 6% from a year earlier and the lowest in a decade.

The report says the North American market remains a major drag on the global economic recovery, with a double-digit decline in the first half of this year.

In the North American market, despite a strong job market and falling inflation, consumers are hesitant to upgrade their equipment, prolonging the replacement cycle.

Jeff Fieldhack, director of North American research, said: "current statistics show that the upgrading rate of subscriber equipment of all operators in the United States has reached an all-time low this year."

We are following the fourth quarter performance with great interest. The iPhone 15 series is accelerating to attract high-end customers, while the volume of the iPhone 12 series and rich discount activities are expected to boost Apple's iPhone business revenue.

Assuming Apple doesn't have the same production problems as it did last year, Apple is expected to become the world's number one mobile phone maker by annual shipments.

The report also said that in the current smartphone market, the high-end and ultra-high-end mobile phone markets have become the main driving forces, which is conducive to the further development of Apple.

The agency also predicts that Apple's iPhone's performance in markets such as the US this year could mark the arrival of the "Apple era", topping the world's annual mobile phone shipments for the first time.
