CTOnews.com August 17 news, foreign technology media Arstechnica recently warned that after Adobe and Microsoft terminated their support for PostScript Type 1 fonts, some old documents may have "missing fonts" errors.

CTOnews.com Note: Type 1 fonts (also known as PostScript, PS1, T1, Adobe Type 1, Multiple Master, or MM) are a format in the font industry and have been replaced by formats that support a larger set of glyphs.

Type 1 fonts were introduced by Adobe in 1984, used in conjunction with its PostScript page description language, and are widely used with the popularity of desktop publishing software and printers that can use PostScript.

Adobe partnered with Microsoft to launch a new font format called OpenType to replace TrueType and PostScript Type 1; by the mid-2000s, it had been released as an open standard and became the main font format used by most operating systems and software.

Microsoft recently announced that Microsoft Office for the Mac platform has also abandoned support for Type 1 fonts.

In addition, Microsoft version 365 Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook for Mac have also abandoned support for this font.

Another open source office suite, LibreOffice, also stopped supporting Type 1 fonts in version 5.3 released in the middle of last year.
