CTOnews.com, August 17 (Xinhua)-- New York City has announced that by 2030, all online car-hailing cars must use electric cars and barrier-free vehicles, which is the first big city in the world to make this requirement, according to Electrek.

New York Mayor Eric Adams and David du, chairman of the City Taxi and Limousine Council (TLC), today unveiled new "green travel" rules that require New York City's ride-hailing fleet to be electrified and accessible by 2030. Current federal and state subsidies are expected to encourage the purchase of electric cars and promote price parity between electric and internal combustion engine vehicles by 2027.

In addition, the state government requires that all new passenger cars, pick-up trucks and SUV sold in the state must be zero-emission by 2035.

CTOnews.com comes with steps to advance the "green travel" program: from 2024, New York City will require 5 per cent of high-frequency ride-hailing trips, including platforms such as Uber and Lyft, using electric or barrier-free vehicles. This proportion will increase to 15% in 2025 and 25% in 2026. It has since increased by 20 percentage points a year until it reaches 100% by the end of the decade.

Uber and Lyft have also promised to complete the electrified transition by 2030, with a total of 78000 online car-hailing vehicles in New York City. Overall, New York City's goal is to halve traffic emissions by 2030.
