In 1993, Ian Murdock announced the launch of the Debian project, and a month later, on September 15, the Debian GNU / Linux operating system debuted.

According to the Debian Wiki website, "Debian Day" parties will be held in some cities in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Germany, India, South Africa, Turkey and other countries and regions to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Debian Linux project.

At the same time, following the release of Debian GNU / Linux 12.1, the next major version, Debian GNU / Linux 13 (CTOnews.com Note: code-named "Trixie"), is already in development and will be the first version to officially support the RISC-V hardware architecture.

Debian is one of the oldest GNU / Linux distributions and the basis for many other Linux-based operating systems, including Ubuntu, Kali, MX, and raspberry pie OS. This operating system focuses on stability and does not pursue fancy new features, so it often takes a long time for new versions to be released.

Linux release Debian 12.1, released in late July this year, mainly fixes a number of security issues, such as system user creation, and is still essentially a "minor fix" of Debian 12, but the Linux kernel has been upgraded from version 5.10 to version 6.1 LTS (with newer drivers, support for new hardware, and at least long-term support until December 2026).
