CTOnews.com August 16, Valve today released the "update of the Steam minimum price threshold" announcement, announcing that it has adjusted the minimum price allowed for some non-US dollar currencies, which may be affected if you have a game or DLC priced at $5 or less.

To put it simply, the minimum price of 99 cents in the US dollar area will remain unchanged, while the lowest prices in some other currency areas will be adjusted to be in line with the "recommended currency conversion" policy announced in October last year.

As a result of this change, the use of older, lower-priced games or DLC in some areas may be hidden from purchase in some countries, or may not be able to offer such a large discount.

Products priced at $0.99 offer a discount of up to 50%, or $0.495 (currently about RMB3.60).

Products priced at $1.99 offer up to a 75% discount, that is, $0.4975 (currently about 3.63175 yuan)

Products priced at $4.99 offer up to 90% discount, that is, $0.499 (currently about 3.6427 yuan)

What's changed? These minimum prices were previously in line with our previous pricing conversion recommendations. We updated those recommended prices in October 2022 to accommodate significant changes in the value of some currencies over time, so this change will match our minimum price with the new recommended price.

What changes do I need to make? If the pricing or discount price of one or more of your products is lower than the new minimum price, it will cause one of the following problems:

If the base price of your product is lower than the lowest possible transaction price of Steam in a currency, you will not be able to continue to purchase in the country in which that currency is used.

If the discount you have arranged will cause your final price to be lower than the Steam minimum possible transaction price, customers will not be able to purchase the product in countries where the final price is lower than the minimum allowable price.

If your base price in any currency is lower than the lowest possible transaction price for Steam, you will not be able to arrange a new discount.

If your lowest price in any currency is close to the lowest possible transaction price for Steam, the discount you can enter may be limited to ensure that the discounted price is not lower than the minimum allowable price.

How do I make the required changes? To make the necessary changes, see the following two tools:

Pricing: access the price management tool in this view, if the price is lower than the minimum allowable price, the product name will be highlighted in bright red. In addition, you will see a red sign next to each price below the lower limit.

One way to solve this problem is to use the drop-down list to select the dollar price shift and then apply the recommended currency conversion to all currencies of the package.

Another way is to go to each currency field with a red flag and manually enter a number to adjust the price to the lowest allowable price or higher.

What is the impact of price updates on future discounts? When you modify the base price of the game, Steam will automatically adjust all scheduled discount prices to match the discount ratio you want. However, if you arrange a discount for the next 30 days, you will not be able to increase the price of your game. The price increase will cause all regions to enter a 30-day discount cooling-off period (even if you only raise the price in one currency). Some developers will choose to wait for a discount before making a price change immediately, when the product is already in a cooling-off period between two discounts.
