CTOnews.com, August 16 (Xinhua)-- Douyin Group announced today that China Film Archive, Douyin and Volcano engine have launched the "Classic Hong Kong Film Restoration Project" to restore 100 Hong Kong classic films at 4K.

According to reports, the Hong Kong film restoration consists of three links: traditional restoration, algorithm restoration and artistic restoration.

The first step is the traditional restoration, mainly the restoration of the film itself, which is completed by the China Film Archive.

The second step is algorithm repair, which is supported by Volcano engine Multimedia Lab. AIGC vision model is applied to old film restoration for the first time, which claims to be able to improve film quality in terms of clarity, color, fluency, defects and so on.

The last step is artistic restoration. In addition to using AI repair to improve picture quality, the China Film Archive will adjust and control the overall artistic style of the film. The results of these artistic repairs will be used as training data for AI models to learn how to "repair as old" while improving clarity. The restoration of "Wu Zongyuan Su Qier" was directed by the director Chen Jiashang.
