CTOnews.com, August 16 (Xinhua) the Maisie galaxy was discovered by the James Webb Space Telescope in June 2022, and astronomers now rely on advanced instruments to calculate the galaxy's more accurate age.

Astronomers believe that the galaxy was formed 390 million years after the Big Bang and is about 13.4 billion years old. The Maisie galaxy is second only to JADES-GS-z13-0, the oldest known galaxy, and is 7000 years younger.

CTOnews.com Note: the project, led by astronomer Steven Finkelstein (Steven Finkelstein) at the University of Texas at Austin, originally thought that the Maisie galaxy was formed 290 million years after the Big Bang, but after detailed investigation, the correction data was delayed by 100 million years.

"what's exciting about Maisie is that it was one of the first distant galaxies discovered by JWST, and the first galaxy to be confirmed by spectrum," Finkelstein said.
